Warning 10 GB

170hx-rir-tool reads the GA100 fuse block and can permanently burn RIR (Redundancy Information Row) records. On the 10 GB card its purpose is to burn one record pair that clears the gate fuse blocking software fuse overrides, which the Gen3 and SM unlocks build on. Author: @lxtend (lxwx, GitHub lixiangwuxian), MIT. Repository: https://github.com/lixiangwuxian/170hx-rir-tool (Chinese README: README.zh-CN.md). Source: @lxtend, 2026-10-10

Warning A RIR write is permanent and one-shot. Fuse bits only go from 0 to 1, there is no undo, and a wrong write can cost records or brick the card. Read first. Source: repo github.com/lixiangwuxian/170hx-rir-tool by lixiangwuxian on GitHub, posted by @lxtend, 2026-10-10. "Use at your own risk, you can only write once." Source: @68x0, 2026-10-17 How the burn fits into the 10 GB unlocks is on Unlocks.

What it does

  • Maps BAR0 through /sys/bus/pci/devices/<bdf>/resource0 and talks to the fuse block at 0x820000.
  • Read commands: --status, --dump-rir, --dump-fuses dump the main fuse rows, the RIR records and the floorsweep, PCIe, NVLink and ECC fuse bits.
  • Volatile software overrides (lost at reboot, and only once the gate fuse reads 0): --sw-enable, --sw-write <reg> <val> for fbp, fbpa, fbio, gpc, l2, nvlink, pcie, gen3, gen4 and ecc, --sw-disable.
  • The permanent write: --write-rir 0 0x00950015 burns two records that clear disable_sw_override. The author measured that the write lands, reads back, survives a cold power-off and takes effect after a reboot, with no external hardware.
  • The write refuses a row whose existing records differ from the request, saves the RIR state before and after, asks for two confirmations (the row number, then BURN) and verifies afterwards.

Install and read

Linux, root, and iomem=relaxed on the kernel command line. The reads work with the NVIDIA driver still bound; unbind only if a command reports that the DEBUGCTRL RWL bit will not latch. Source: repo github.com/lixiangwuxian/170hx-rir-tool by lixiangwuxian on GitHub, posted by @lxtend, 2026-10-10. @lycorascence found it needed the patched driver, or a 610+ driver, before the reads worked; the author then added the prerequisites to the README. git clone https://github.com/lixiangwuxian/170hx-rir-tool && cd 170hx-rir-tool
make # or: gcc -O2 -o ga100_rir ga100_rir.c
sudo ./ga100_rir <bdf> --status
sudo ./ga100_rir <bdf> --dump-rir
sudo ./ga100_rir <bdf> --dump-fuses

Read the source of cmd_write_rir and the Unlocks page before any write.

Which cards

  • The 10 GB card ships with 16 free RIR records. The 8 GB card has none usable, so the tool is for the 10 GB card ("not for 8g", @wakeupmbrc1). See Which card do I have. Source: @wakeupmbrc1, 2026-10-25
  • Other Ampere cards: "if the card have empty rir rows, it should work"; read first to see the RIR status. Source: @lxtend, 2026-10-17
Source: @lxtend, 2026-10-17 Contested @matstatman doubted that a read posted for another card told the whole truth. Source: @matstatman, 2026-10-17

Before you burn

Warning

  • A software-only recipe with software IFF was shared in #general; members advise using that and not spending RIR records yet. Source: @scallion_9883, 2026-10-26

    Source: @impactic, 2026-10-27
  • @dottoreargus expects used 10 GB cards with spent RIR records and no unlock on the market. If you buy a used 10 GB card, read its RIR state before paying; see Buying. Source: @dottoreargus, 2026-10-20

Caveats

  • Fuse overrides alone are usually not enough; most features also need driver changes such as cmpunlocker. The code was AI-assisted and is validated only by the author's listed measurements. • No SM command. The tool itself has no command that unlocks SMs. @riko6253, after reading the source: "there is no unlock SM, only pci 3 gen". The extra SMs come afterwards through software fuse overrides, which the burn makes possible (@68x0: "You can unlock more SMs with the RIR burn"). Reported

  • The HBM site mapping in the output is not reliable. Source: @lxtend, 2026-10-20
  • The helper scripts rir_verify_remote.py and fuse_window_read.py need the gpcprobe module, which is not shipped here, and still decode RIR with an older layout. Source: repo github.com/lixiangwuxian/170hx-rir-tool by lixiangwuxian on GitHub, posted by @lxtend, 2026-10-10.
  • cmp-170hx-rir-burn-util wraps the same burn with more preflight checks and adds the Gen3 driver layer.
